Women in Pakistan

One day, I heard the news about one lady won an Oscar award for making a movie about women of Pakistan. In that movie, she tries to depict women as a most suppressed member of society. It's good news, by the way, that our country won the Oscar award, but after that I realized, what the world would think about Pakistan after watching that movie? That's not a bigger picture. I mean that in Pakistan, it’s happening, which was depicted in the movie but that's rare. So I decided to write an article that shows a much bigger picture of women in Pakistan.
Pakistan is one of the Islamic countries, and most of its inhabitants are Muslims. In Islam, women have been given a very especial position either in form of mothers, sisters, daughters or wives. In fact, they are treated like princesses. Pakistan is one of the safest countries for women, and women can go anywhere she wants but obviously in certain limits. Now I will try to explain the reputation of each of the women's status and how they are treated in Pakistan.

As a Mother:

As I mentioned above that most of the inhabitants of Pakistan are Muslims, so in Islam has a special reputation that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that “your heaven lies under your mother’s feet". In Pakistan, mothers are having a strong influence on family matters. Children respect their mother no matter how old they are. I have seen people whose mothers are totally disabled, but they keep her in their home and fulfill their all needs. Even some people fight with their sibling that I will take care of mothers. Especially son takes all medical responsibility on his own shoulder of her mother and provide all sorts of facilities which they are in need at that older age.

As a Sister:

Sister is one of the most prominent relations as women. Brother treats their sister like a princess. They fight with each other, but even in that fight, there is a love reflection in it. Brother takes care of their sister from the external harm and provides all sorts of help in every aspect of life. Elder sisters are treated like mother and younger sisters are treated like a daughter. If I am not wrong, then the brother-sister relation is one of the great examples to see how women are treated in Pakistan.

As a Wife:

Wife! Another beautiful relation. In Islam, it is allowed to a man to marry at most four women at a time, but it is necessary to treat all four with justice. The wife is the gift of Allah to the man who provides full support in every aspect of life. In Pakistan, wives are taken great care by their husband. There are little ups and downs in this relation, but even that ups and downs increase love between them. The husband usually takes financial responsibility of their wife and fulfill all their desires. If I am not wrong than wives are treated like a queen in Pakistan.

As a Daughter:

Daughter is considered to be blessed in Islam and in fact one of the most beloved relations in Pakistan. Daughters have a strong bonding with their father. Father is like a dream fulfiller for the daughter. In every aspect of life, daughter is provided with full support and protective environment by their father. Father, even cut their heart and forget about their own need, but always ready to fulfill her daughter's desire. If I am not exaggerating than daughter is like a princess to their father.

From all my above discussion, I am not trying to ignore the suppressed attitude of man towards women in Pakistan, but that's not a bigger picture. The much bigger picture is one which I try to depict in this article.

In a nutshell, we can say that Pakistan is a country in which son respects his mother, brothers take care of his sister, father ready to sacrifice his desire for his daughter and husband makes his wife life beautiful.

  5. It was interesting to read this article, from your point a view. A Pakistani. I would also be interested in reading a Pakistani woman's point of view. It was very informative for me as someone who doesn't know much about your culture, and my primary source of information is movies (which like to stated are not accurate).
